Despite World War II, the Postal Division maintained services, highlighting the importance of communication. The Postal and Telegraph Departments merged into the “Post and Telegraph Department.” Now part of the Ministry of Public Works, this resulted from international conference participation. Domestic air mail transport introduction marked significant expansion. Post and telegraph offices opened in 18 provinces during this period.
During the monarchy-to-democracy shift, the department faced law and organizational changes, including reorganization. The Communications Act of 1976 established the department as a state enterprise, separating operations. The “Communications Authority” advanced postal and telecommunications services, aiding the Thai economy and life.

Transformation created Thailand Post Company Limited and CAT Telecom Public Company Limited. Currently, the postal service aims to lead the industry with prompt, efficient services. They operate over 1,200 mailing stations and 13 postal centers, staffed by skilled personnel and equipped with modern tools. In 1880, Chao Muen Samerjai Rat Hua Muen Chamberlain Woresit advised King Chulalongkorn to establish a postal service in Thailand. With the King’s approval, he appointed Prince Phanurangsi Sawangwong as the Governor of the Postal Department.
In 1883, Phra Nakhon and Thonburi were the first to experiment with the postal service. The “Thailand Post Act” of 1885 established the service regulations. The “Communications Authority,” established in 1977, evolved into a major state enterprise by taking over all postal operations from the Post and Telegraph Department.
