Tanjung Priok port saw an increase in export and import activities at the beginning of the 1990s as a result of Indonesia’s rapid economic growth. Container handling capacity was urgently needed because the two existing terminals struggled to handle the growing volume of containers. A private company and a state-owned company collaborated to build a brand-new, cutting-edge container terminal to meet this rising demand. This joint effort brought about the formation of the Koja Compartment Terminal, intended to improve the effectiveness and limit of holders taking care of at the port. 

The two businesses collaborated to manage daily operations, ensuring the terminal met growing industry demands. They raised the terminal’s annual capacity from 680,000 TEUs to over 1 million TEUs successfully. This expansion allowed the terminal to handle more containers while maintaining prompt, reliable service. Optimization programs played a key role in increasing capacity and improving operational efficiency. The terminal now accommodates the rising volume of containers and supports efficient global shipping.

The Koja Container Terminal handles large fourth-generation ships, establishing itself as an essential Indonesian trade hub. Its expanded capacity and improved capabilities have made it a key player in regional logistics.
